Nigeria has made it official. Today, it charged Dick Cheney with 16 bribery-related charges. While that’s not unexpected, I’m amused by Dick Cheney’s Defense-Attorney-on-Call Terry O’Donnell’s response to the charges: Mr Cheney’s lawyer, Terence O’Donnell, said US investigators had “found no suggestion of any impropriety by Dick Cheney in his role of CEO of Halliburton”. Isikoff Doubles Down on His Anonymous Leak from Cheney’s Lawyer |

Michael Isikoff seems undaunted that Cheney’s interview undermines the tale that Cheney’s lawyer told Isikoff. Isikoff is still going to repeat O’Donnell’s tale uncritically.

Surprise surprise. After Dick Cheney’s personal lawyer succeeded in preventing the NH Phone-jamming scandal from tainting the White House, he appears to be back in the business of collectively defending the White House and–most of all–Dick Cheney. Michael Isikoff reports that Terry O’Donnell is now representing the former Counsel for DOD, William Haynes.

McClatchy has a long story out detailing how indictments for the New Hampshire phone-jamming case got stalled. The whole thing is worth reading. But I’m particularly intrigued by the role of Terry O’Donnell, who was apparently responsible for getting Tobin’s indictment stalled until after the 2004 election. That’s rather curious, since O’Donnell is actually Dick Cheney’s personal lawyer.
