BP Well Bore And Casing Integrity May Be Blown, Says Florida’s Sen. Nelson

By: bmaz Monday June 7, 2010 11:15 am

Senator Bill Nelson indicates the most horrific possible outcome is at hand in the BP Gulf Oil Spill, namely that basic well integrity is truly shot and oil and gas have breached the well casing and well bore and are escaping into the rock and out into the ocean through the sea floor.

Our Former Coup Client Speaks

By: emptywheel Sunday June 6, 2010 7:54 am

As I’ve said before, one of the best ways to see the absurd nature of the relationship between our government and BP as they partner to try to fix BP’s disaster is to remember that fifty-some years ago, the CIA overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran because it had nationalized BP’s facilities. I invite [...]

Obama Monty Hall To Give Lovely Parting Gifts To BP Death Victims

By: bmaz Friday June 4, 2010 7:34 pm

Obama has suddenly announced his determination to have an empathy fest with the family and friends of the deceased victims of the criminally negligent BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. they deserve much better, and more, than that.

BP’s LMRP: Claws, Craws, Saws and Jaws

By: bmaz Tuesday June 1, 2010 10:07 am

The LMRP process continues on after the failure of every other action by BP. Meanwhile, the Obama DOJ acts like the eleven deaths on Deepwater Horizon never happened.

BP Adopts the Public Face of Dick Cheney

By: emptywheel Tuesday June 1, 2010 9:06 am

I mean that headline more metaphorically than literally. But I do find it really really telling–and really really bad taste–that BP just hired Cheney’s former campaign press flack, Anne Womack-Kolton, to head its American media relations. BP has hired a former top aide for Vice President Dick Cheney to be their new spokeswoman. Anne Womack-Kolton [...]

BP Criminal Liability Working Thread

By: bmaz Sunday May 30, 2010 3:08 pm

The key to unlocking where we stand on this is understanding the exact relationship, and how clearly defined it is, between the parent company “BP Plc.”, the Texas City criminal defendant entity “BP Products North America Inc.” and the Alaska criminal defendant entity “BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. Also, what exact names are on the permits and leases for the Macondo well project? How do all these fit together and can we pierce these alter egos and reasonably argue that the parent entity BP Plc. is legally, including criminally, liable for all?

Top Hat and Tails; BP Has Yet Another “Solution”

By: bmaz Sunday May 30, 2010 12:29 pm

Now that this is an all oil all the time blog, the restless residents are clamoring for a new thread for the LMRP, the latest greatest bullshit moonshot BP is ginning up for the gullible media and public. You ask, we comply; this is a full service blog! Here is a quick recap. Top Kill [...]

BP Criminals In The Gulf

By: bmaz Friday May 28, 2010 5:10 am

As a direct and proximate result of the reckless, wanton, willful, and grossly negligent conduct of BP, eleven men are dead and the biggest environmental disaster in history has been unleashed on the fragile and critical Gulf of Mexico, threatening the lives and livelihoods of untold numbers of American families. The Obama Administration and its DOJ should be prosecuting the obvious crimes and using criminal investigatory powers to secure evidence; there is no excuse for them not doing so to date.

The Official Flow Rate: 12,000-19,000 BBL/Day

By: emptywheel Thursday May 27, 2010 7:15 am

The head of the USGS just did a press conference to announce the government’s official estimate of how much oil is flowing into the Gulf. The official estimate is that the flow rate is 12,000-19,000 BBL/day. To get the estimate, the team used two different methodologies, then adopted the rate of overlap between the two [...]

“I cannot see that any other form of organisation would stand a better chance”

By: emptywheel Wednesday May 26, 2010 7:22 am

I’ve been thinking a lot during the last month about the fact that 50-some years ago, the United States overthrew the democratically-elected government in Iran because the country nationalized BP’s assets in the country. Take this FT interview with the Chairman of BP, Carl-Henric Svanberg, that Yves Smith linked to. As Yves points out, Svanberg [...]
