First, thanks to Jane Hamsher, a remarkable woman who has built a first class enterprise at FDL that melds together disparate and critical elements necessary for an informed mind in a troubled world. I have been honored to learn from, and work with, Jane over the last several years. The same goes for each and every one of the colleagues, both present and past, I have had the fortune to be associated with while at FDL. They are all, quite simply, some of the most remarkable and wonderful people I have ever met.
I would also like to wish Kevin Gosztola and Jeff Kaye, the former who I look forward to getting to know, and the latter who I know quite well, the best of luck in their new section at FDL, The Dissenter. May the wind be at their backs; and I hope you will all give them the attention and participation their work does, and will, deserve. They are both very good.
As for all our loyal readers and commenters, the warmth and love you have shown us over the years and in the post announcing the move is nothing short of stunning and humbling. A great many of you came with us here from The Next Hurrah and, well, I both hope and expect to see you nearly uninterrupted at the new digs; and I think you will be quite comfortable with them. So, while parting with FDL is tremendously hard, there is going to be an exciting new day for both us and them.
Again, to both colleagues and readers, it has been an extreme honor and pleasure to have spent the last many years with you at Firedoglake. I cannot thank one and all enough for everything.
Happy trails pardners. Second star to the right and straight on till morning!

until we meet again
Can’t we just stuff you and keep you in the corner of the clubhouse like Roy did Trigger?
Au revoir, as Nixon and the French say.
This could fit the situation, too:

As they fly off in the Songbird
Sure won’t be the same – but it’s not like you’re all going WAY away.
See ya ’round the tubes!
Thanks for the memories – especially the ones no one wants to remember.
“All that is necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good people to do nothing.”
We know the date of evil winning has been pushed back by your presence.
I follow where you lead.
It should be interesting. And Scott Bloch*s sentencing business is still out on appeal.
I am glad for Jane*s honorarium. Her imagination and timeliness, and associates, were an assist; and shared some good stability after the years pondering the book stacks in tnH.
There*s room in the netRoots. I will lend help, when chores permit. I am sure there is some inspiration in the frozen dunes and at Itasca, where emptywheel had good leadership.
How are we going to find you guys?
Nothing official tying this to Marcy…
repeat: nothing official,
…but it seems that the existing domain emptywheel.com was updated last month.
Not much there now but:
Create: 10-jun-2006
Updated: 17-jun-2011
Expiration: 10-jun-2012
… might be them, might not…
That will all be announced tomorrow as to our new address. But worry not me pirate matey; ye think I would let you drift off into Davey Jones’ locker while there are still Clemens’ goings on going on and college football around the corner? Not a chance me scallywag!
Plus, there are still future margaritas at sunset in the Gulf to accomplish….
Or this

Wow just wow. I did’t know but that’s because been out of pocket. Can’t wait for … the news tomorrow.
I look forward to following you both. Thanks for all you do.
Bmaz, first of all, it has been a pleasure reading your many posts. Second, the Trash Talk has always to been fun to read. Third, thanks for taking 99% of my posts in the straight forward manner in which they were intended.
Lsst, what is the funeral theme for? Empty Wheel is not disappearing. The work of Marcy and you is continuing and likely not missing a beat.
I’m sure we will all see you at the new site–though I know it might be tempting to not let me know the address so I’ll be a thing of the past.
Knowing you, the chances of that are slim, so I hope to trash talk the new season coming very soon.
a gentle, elegant goodbye
nice touch on the ball, bmaz.
Not us. It’s someone in China trying to get money out of me.
But you’re close. Just trying to get the site up and running adn then we’ll let you know.
Not goodby – see you later.
sniff
Thanks for the kind words, bmaz. You and Marcy are class acts, and I hope that Kevin and I at The Dissenter can go part of the way in filling your shoes… or is it boots? I look forward to reading you and Marcy at your new cyber location.
Many here might not know it, but bmaz was quite instrumental in my coming to FDL to begin with, and picked me up out of the Daily Kos miasma, where as Valtin I was writing regularly, as later I would here, on the torture scandal, and recognized that I had something important to add to that discussion. I am very much in his debt. He recognized before almost anyone else that what I was saying about ongoing abuse in the current version of the Army Field Manual was a pertinent issue. He was a help in many other ways over the past two years. His honesty and passion for truth and saying what is on his mind is a model for me. I very much appreciate his ongoing support, including for my new venture at FDL.
I’ll miss you here at FDL, bmaz, but look forward to dropping in at your new place. I hope I’ll see you and Marcy around here sometimes, too.
Lynyrd Skynyrd with the Stars and Bars? That seems totally inappropriate.
Since Marcy’s writing is centered on issues of justice, I’ll recommend a much different send-off.
(Please excuse the Obama adoration; it was the best copy of the song I could find).
Lift Every Voice and Sing
a parting quote attributed to margaret mead:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
You, EW (and Mary), opened up the sinuses of the mind; to encourage a macro view down to minute specifics on so many issues, it’s been a pleasure to exercise my brain again. See you on the other side.
Just a pause that refreshes: Henry Mancini’s Dreamsville, his orchestra, featuring John Williams on piano.
Be seeing you!
Sorry to see you go. FDL will be weakened as it already has been with some of the lame brain posters, who, frankly, are of no interest to me. I have been less than overjoyed at the quality of writing with some of the new throng of posters. Quantity is in no way quality. I have been visiting FDL less and less since the advent of Dayen and now at least 50% of the reason for still visiting is gone.
Oh well I will find another source or go back to more gardening. I look forward to reading you where ever you hang you hat.
So, BMAZ, it’s not goodbye,
it’s time for a housewarming party at the new address!
Margaritas for everybody!
Thanks for all your very hard work on very difficult subjects. I look forward to Kevin and Jeff’s work as The Dissenter(s). May they enjoy a wild success here, and may you and Marcy enjoy every success in your new adventure. The more voices, the better. Happy Trails, indeed.
Just to let you know, I bookmarked your page at FDL and that is how I entered FDL daily, through your blog.
Glad I bookmarked you. With your header gone on the FDL front page, no one can find you. There is no link on FDL’s front page as of now. So, I am not sure how anyone will find the links you posted to your new digs.
Anyone on vacation will not find you or your good-bye posts. Hope Jane can post a link button.
