Keller and the infamous Edith Jones, who once leaned on a lawyer arguing a death penalty appeal to hurry up so she would not be late to her kid’s birthday party. Like Bush, she came to Texas to befoul the scenery. She originally is from Philadelphia.

Was aware of the matter from a while back, but not that it was formally starting with the hearing. Thanks. Keller, from what I recall, has always been rather callous and cavalier, in the best George Bush way, about executions. Hope she gets a comeuppance.

Wish I were going to be in town this week to watch this play out.
Judge Keller’s actions were jaw-droppingly stupid/callous/typically Republican, and I’m surprised enough that the judicial commission brought charges. It will be interesting.

Oh, bmaz, thanks so much for alerting us to this. I know “hope” has become a compromised word, sporkovat @ 24, but this amicus brief does give me a little of what it used to mean before the politicians dirtied it and spat it in our collective face.

Peter, you should see the amicus brief filed already by Charles Ogletree on behalf of Bob Barr, and a whole boatload of other former state attorneys general, judges and lawyers in favor of Davis.

The amicus briefs (from the District Court all the way up to SCOTUS) should be quite interesting, as each tries to bolster and rebut Stevens and Scalia.
