Keller and the infamous Edith Jones, who once leaned on a lawyer arguing a death penalty appeal to hurry up so she would not be late to her kid’s birthday party. Like Bush, she came to Texas to befoul the scenery. She originally is from Philadelphia.

Was aware of the matter from a while back, but not that it was formally starting with the hearing. Thanks. Keller, from what I recall, has always been rather callous and cavalier, in the best George Bush way, about executions. Hope she gets a comeuppance.

bmaz: Are you aware of this?

Wish I were going to be in town this week to watch this play out.
Judge Keller’s actions were jaw-droppingly stupid/callous/typically Republican, and I’m surprised enough that the judicial commission brought charges. It will be interesting.

Oh, bmaz, thanks so much for alerting us to this. I know “hope” has become a compromised word, sporkovat @ 24, but this amicus brief does give me a little of what it used to mean before the politicians dirtied it and spat it in our collective face.

That’s quite a collection of signatories.

But I wonder what they’ll do, now that they have permission to file a brief on the merits of Davis’ claim directly.

“the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 “

Thanks to Bill Clinton for laying the police state foundation upon which Bush II so eagerly built.

The ‘man from Hope‘ … they had good success using that word again in 2008.

Yes. And yes again.

The amicus briefs (from the District Court all the way up to SCOTUS) should be quite interesting, as each tries to bolster and rebut Stevens and Scalia.

This ain’t over tonight — not by a long shot.
